Cougars on final prowl

By JAYSON KNIGHT and GLENN MORRIS
Special to the news capital

Canadian High School will host their very first Homecoming celebration Friday at 6:30 p.m. before they take the field with the Webbers Falls Warriors. They will have plenty to celebrate, having won four games in their first season.

With kings and queens being crowned, it could be a special night for the inaugural season for Canadian Cougars football.

The Cougars planned to have senior night, to add to the festivities, honoring 12 seniors that will be leaving the team.

The Cougars head into this game coming off a loss to No. 3 ranked Maud Thursday night. The Cougars are 5-2 in district play and 5-4 overall.

The Canadian Cougars defense will compete without senior linebacker John Boyer who is out due to a shoulder separation. The Cougars also lose two second string players due to a broken arm and a broken hand that were suffered during practice Monday.

“I believe this will be a hard-fought ballgame” former state championship-winning head coach Don Farris said. “Webbers Falls has a strong, fast defense but I believe we have the advantage in speed and also a have a good group of receivers.”

Kickoff is in Canadian Friday night at 7:30 p.m.
