ADA — Services for Jessie H. Younts, 86, Ada, were 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 2, 2008, at Smith-Phillips Funeral Home, Ada. Burial followed at Rosedale Cemetery, Ada. Officiating was the Rev. Frank Trent. Chickasaw Honor Guard performed military honors.
Mr. Younts died Wednesday, Jan. 30, 2008, at Oklahoma Veterans’ Center in Sulphur. He was born Jan. 4, 1922, in Latta to Joe Younts and Ida Laura Hazelwood Younts.
He married Dorothy Bernice Sawyer Dec. 10, 1948, in Ada. She died March 2, 1989.
Mr. Younts worked for the city of Ada as a supervisor over the sanitation department and retired after 31 years of service. He also served in the United States Army during World War II, while receiving a purple heart for his services in the European African Middle Eastern Campaign and the American Campaign. He was of the Pentecostal Holiness Faith and a lifelong resident of Ada.
Survivors include a son, Robert Younts, Ada; two daughters, Dorothy Pollock, and her husband Craig Sr., Kingston, and Jo Ann Jones, Ada; 10 grandchildren, Craig Pollock Jr. and his wife Tiffani, Norman, Lisa McWhorter and her husband Marc, Houston, Texas, Tony Pollock, Ada, Casey Lemons and her husband Mike, Ada, Angela Khoury and her husband Aaron, Ada, Dillon Younts, Broken Bow, Whitney Younts, Broken Bow, Jessie Younts, Florida, and Mallori S. Younts, Ada, and Desiree Benoit, Texas; 20 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and a special friend, Nancy Fowler.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Bernice Younts and parents, Joe and Ida Younts; a brother, Lee Younts; and four sisters, Verna Summers, Velma McNeil, Myrtle Cannon, and Lucille Gipson.
Bearers were Larry Cannon, Eugene Cannon, Curtis Knighten, Dannie Harlin, Aaron Khoury and Phillip Wood.
Honorary bearers were David Jones, Brad Faust and Mike Lemons.
