NORMA FLOWERS

COALGATE — Services for Norma Jean Baxla Flowers, 71, Ada, were 2 p.m. Monday May 12, 2008, at Browns Funeral Service Chapel in Coalgate. The Rev. Bill Weathers officiated.

Mrs. Flowers died May 6, 2008, in Coalgate. She was born Sept. 12, 1936, in Zenia, Ohio, to Oren Edward and Opal Virginia Walker Baxla.

She attended Peoria High School and was a homemaker. She was a member of St. Peters Episcopal Church in Coalgate.

She married Cecil Flowers Jr. Nov. 8, 1953, in Salome, Ariz.

Survivors include her husband, Cecil C. Flowers, Ada; three sons, Bruce Alan Flowers and wife Glenda of Phoenix, Ariz., Steven Wayne Flowers and wife Birdie of Platter, Okla., and Dennis Lane Flowers of Oklahoma City; two daughters, Debra Lynn Wood and husband Don of Coalgate, Cynthia Kay Harvey and husband Blu of Broken Arrow; mother-in-law Janie Flowers, Coalgate; a sister, Roberta June White; four brothers, Larry Baxla and wife Rose Mary of Peoria, Ariz., Donald Baxla and wife Kathy of Tuscon, Ariz., Ronald Baxla of Norwalk, Calif., and Phillip Baxla of Madison, Wis.; three brothers-in-law Rodney Flowers and wife Leslie of Mead, Okla., Ronald Flowers and wife Shirley of Sun City West, Ariz., Jerry Flowers and wife Karen of Cottonwood, Okla.; two sisters-in-law, Joy Flowers of Durant and Roxie Flowers of Durant; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, cousins, nieces, nephews and many other relatives.

Mrs. Flowers is preceded in death by her parents, Oren Edward and Opal Virginia Walker Baxla; sister Mary Alice Johnston; and brother Jimmy Redd.

Honorary bearers include Jeff Pope, Rodney Flowers, Jerry Flowers, Levi Bolgrien, Brandon Flowers and Ronald Flowers.

Monroe Roy Bettis

COOKSON – Services for Monroe Roy Bettis, 87, will be 10 a.m. Friday, May, 16, 2008, at Cookson Baptist Church in Cookson, with the Revs. Gerald Peters and Bart Skipper officiating.  Burial takes place at 3:30 p.m. Friday in New Bethel Cemetery, Byng.

Mr. Bettis died May 13, 2008, at Tulsa. He was born July 3, 1920, at Pearson Switch, Okla., to Jesse and Ruth Thompson Bettis.

He attended schools in the Asher area, playing center on the Asher football team and graduating from high school in 1939.  After high school, he joined the CCC Corp.  He later joined the Army Air Corps, serving in Fort Sill, Okla., Australia, New Guinea and Papua on the ocean liner Queen Elizabeth I.  He was a veteran of World War II, serving from 1942 until 1945.  He was awarded campaign ribbons for the battles of New Guinea and Papua with the Army Air Corps 5th Air Squadron. He earned a Good Conduct medal, Airplane and Engine Mechanic certification, an AFF Technician Badge, Asian-Pacific Service Ribbon and Three Bronze Service Stars while gaining the rank of sergeant. His final assignment was a Wright Field, Ohio, to work to work on the Enola Gay.

After the war, he returned to Ada to work on the family farm and in the oil fields.

His career began as a roustabout and rig builder and ended as an independent supervisor and consultant in the many oil fields of Oklahoma and Texas, working for several oil companies throughout the region.  He was co-owner of Sterling Pipe and Supply.

He married Jean Sparkman in 1945.

In 1976, Monroe married his high school sweetheart, Dee Creech.

He was a member of Cookson Baptist Church and served on Cookson Water Board.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Jesse and Ruth Bettis, sister, Ruby Bettis, and brothers, Hubert and Hershel Bettis.

Survivors include his wife, Dee, of the home; son Paul Bettis and wife, Pat of Norman; daughter Nina Williams and husband Dean, of Norman; son Mike Bettis and wife Dee of Noble; stepsons Gary Lehrman and wife Naomi, Greg Lehrman and wife Connie, all of Broken Arrow; sisters, Betty Gerth and husband Elmer and Hazel Jamar and husband Alvin, all of Ada; 10 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews and cousins and his extended Creech and Cookson families.

Bearers will be Paul Bettis, Mike Bettis, Dean Williams, Gary Bettis, Gary Lehrman and Greg Lehrman.
