VIRGINIA RODEN
ADA — Services for Virginia Roden, 87, Ada, are 10 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 20, at Smith-Phillips Funeral Home, Ada, the Rev. John Allen officiating. Burial follows at Rosedale Cemetery, Ada.
Mrs. Roden died Saturday, Aug. 15, 2009, at an Ada nursing center. She was born March 10, 1922, at El Paso, Texas, to Philip and Ida Walton Richmond.
She married Fred Roden June 14, 1941, in Ada. He died April 18, 1979.
Mrs. Roden graduated from Ada High School and was a lifelong resident of Ada. She was a homemaker and longtime member of Oak Avenue Baptist Church. She was also a member of Pauls Valley First Baptist Church in Pauls Valley.
Survivors include six sons, Fred Roden Jr., Connerville, Jerry Roden, Rockwall, Texas, Kenneth Roden, Jacksonville, Fla., Ronald Roden, Wichita, Kan., Paul Roden, Oklahoma City, and Joe Roden, Irving, Texas; three daughters, Carolyn Pannell, Cedar Hills, Texas, Sue Hankins, Duncanville, Texas, and Mary Pruett, Pauls Valley; three brothers, Raymond Richmond, San Diego, Calif.; Don Richmond, White Oak, Texas, and Philip Richmond, Pensacola, Fla.; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Fred Roden; a son, John Walter Roden; a brother, Kenneth Richmond; two sisters, Buelah Mae Richmond and Christine Simpson.
Bearers are Dennis Story, Farrell Rhodes, Darrell Rhodes, David Eidson, Kendall Holland and Gerald McAlister.

GENE HOOD
OIL CENTER — Services for Ulma “Gene” Hood, 74, Oil Center are 10 a.m. Saturday at Criswell Funeral Home Chapel, the Revs. Earl Hood and Bennie Boeck will officiate. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery. Masonic rites will be performed and the U. S. Army Honor Guard will conduct military honors at the cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Friday at Criswell Funeral Home.
Mr. Hood died Wednesday, Aug. 26, 2009, at his home. He was born Dec. 16, 1934, at Beebe to Herman Cecil and Omega Denney Hood.
He attended Beebe grade school and graduated from Vanoss High School in 1952. He also attended East Central University. After high school, he spent some time logging in Humbolt County, California, before being inducted into the military on Nov. 19, 1953. He attended basic training camp at Camp Chafee, Arkansas, before continuing on as part of the 11th Airborne stationed at Fort Campbell, Ky.
He married Wanda Lois Coley on Dec. 24, 1955. She died May 26, 2007.
Mr. Hood owned and managed lumberyards in both Stonewall and Ada for more than 40 years. He was a 32nd degree Mason and previously was involved in the Independent Order of Odd Fellows (IOOF), Lions Club and various other civic organizations. He was a volunteer firefighter for more than 30 years and was a past mayor of Stonewall.
Survivors include two sons, Dr. Ronald Gene Hood and wife Donna, Broken Arrow and Robin G. Hood and wife Rebecca, Stratford; two daughters of the home, Rhonda Gale Hood and Reneé Genise Hood; grandchildren, Ryan, Natalie and Nicole Hood and Chad Ridgway and Misty Luper; and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, brothers, J.B. and Tab Hood and his sister, Alene Hollaway.
Bearers will be his nephews, Ryan Hood, Richard Hood, Jason Coley, Bill Hood, Donnie Hood, Lee Coley, Rick Wells, Geary Sanders, Dale Sanders and Rev. Earl Hood.
