REV. DAVID WILLIAMS

SPARTA, Tenn. — Graveside services with military rites by the Veterans Honor Guard for David McCoy Williams, 85, Sparta, Tenn., formerly of Ada, Okla., were held at 11 a.m. Sept. 9, 2009, at Gravel Hill Cemetery in Van Buren County, Tennessee. Harold Thornton officiated.

Mr. Williams died Sept. 7, 2009, at his home. He was born March 5, 1924, to Charlie M. and Minnie Lee Weaver Williams.

He was a retired minister and served in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II. He finished three years of theological training at Lee College in Cleveland, Tenn., in June 1952 and graduated with honors from Lee College with an Associate of Arts Degree in May 1955. He was president of Youth for Christ Ministries while attending Lee College. During this time, he built and pastored the Culhutta, Ga., Church of God for three and one half years.

Mr. Williams served as evangelist for the state of Tennessee for 16 months in 1955 and 1956. He pastored Rocky Hill Church of God from January 1958 to August 1962, and while there, built a complete new church plant. He built and pastored Leavell Woods Church of God for 14 1/2 years in Jackson, Miss. He chartered and built the Congregational Church of God in Jackson, Miss., and pastored there from May 1971 until 1976. In May 1976, he joined the International Pentecostal Holiness Church headquartered in Oklahoma City. He pastored the first Pentecostal Holiness Church of Ada from July 1976 until June 1994. Mr. Williams retired from pastoral duties in June 1994 but continued in ministry holding revivals and nursing home visitations.

Mr. Williams married Wilma Inize Forsyth Williams on July 20, 1956.

He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, James Leon Williams, Joseph Dillard Williams, Gene Raymond Williams, Faison Weaver Williams, and sisters, Mildred Marie Bailey, Geneva Dare Partin and Mary Ruth Reeves.

Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Wilma Inize Forsyth Williams of Sparta, Tenn.; three brothers, Claude Samuel Williams and wife Beverly of Durham, N.C., Charles Richard Williams and wife Beth of Dillwynn, Va., Gregory Wayne Williams of Brandon, Miss.; two sisters, Nancy Thornton and husband Harold, of Gretna, Va., Rebecca Ann Mishoe and husband Billy, of Bracey, Va.; and many nieces, nephews and friends.

VERMO ROY

CASSVILLE, Mo. — Services for Vermo Roy, 87, Joplin, Mo., formerly of Exeter, Mo., were 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 12, 2009, in Exeter First Baptist Church.  The Rev. Jerry Yarnall conducted services.  Graveside services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 15, 2009, in Martha Cemetery, Martha, Okla.

Mrs. Roy died Tuesday, Sept. 8, 2009, in a Joplin hospital. She was born Dec. 9, 1921, in Martha, Okla., the daughter of Edward Lee and Minnie Delila Ward Sampler.

On Oct. 28, 1945, in Wichita, Kan., she married Carl Roy, who survives.  She is also survived by one son, Ronald “Ronnie” Roy and his wife, Trisha of Garland, Texas; four grandchildren, Scott Roy of Rowlett, Texas, Shanda Thornton of Dallas, Georgia, Tracy Dunivan of Drexel, Mo., and Stacey Harris of Cassville, Mo., and four great-grandchildren, Keaton and Kamryn Roy, Cooper Thornton and Brittni Dunivan.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Robert Roy; three brothers; one sister; one half-brother and one half-sister.

Mrs. Roy grew up and received her education in Martha, where she graduated from high school.  In 1970 she and her husband moved to Missouri, where they farmed, raising cattle.  For several years, Mrs. Roy worked for Tyson’s.  She was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary and a member of First Baptist Church, Exeter.

HAROLD THOMPSON

TECUMSEH — Services for Harold LeRoy Thompson, 68, Tecumseh, are 11 a.m. Monday, Sept. 14, 2009, at South Rock Creek Baptist Church, the Rev. Richard Zimmer officiating. Burial follows at Shamrock Cemetery.

Mr. Thompson died Tuesday, Sept. 8, 2009, at Oklahoma City. He was born May 28, 1941, at Drumright.

He was raised in Drumright, he lived in Ponca City and Sulphur before moving to Tecumseh 31 years ago. He attended Shamrock High School.

Mr. Thompson was a member of the National Guard. He drove a truck for Rainbow Bakery until his retirement. He recently worked for Harley World in Oklahoma City.

He was a member of the Elks Lodge, Oklahoma City HOG Chapter, F.A.I.T.H. Riders and Storm Riders, and a member of Rock Creek Baptist Church of Shawnee.

On Feb. 12, 1962, he married Judy Shelton. She died June 8, 1989.

He was preceded in death by his wife, and a great-granddaughter: Kyndal Sheppard.

Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Krista and David Byers, Sulphur, and Gayla and John Jackson, Sulphur; two sons and one daughter-in-law, Tracy Thompson, Tecumseh, Toby and Jennifer Thompson, Shawnee; 10 grandchildren, Kaycie Sheppard and her husband, Cody, Matthew Thompson, Melissa Byers, Hunter Thompson, Jodie Byers, Gracie Thompson, Jessey Thompson, Kaden Salisbury, Dustin Thompson and Kara Thompson; great- grandchildren, Nathan Sheppard, Harley Thompson and Owen Sheppard.

The family has designated F.A.I.T.H. Riders Mission Fund, 44900 Hardesty Road; Shawnee, OK 74801 as appropriate for memorials.

STRATFORD — Graveside services for Wanda Joyce Tyler, 74, are 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 15, 2009, at McGee Cemetery. The Rev. Lewis Perry will officiate.

Mrs. Tyler died Sept. 11, 2009, at Houston, Texas. She was born Sept. 3, 1935, at Stratford to John and Evelyn Wood Cothren.

Her husband, Jimmy Tyler, died July 9, 2009.

She worked as a secretary for Frito-Lay for many years. She was a member of Clear Lake Church of Christ in Houston, Texas.

Survivors include two daughters, Alice and husband Bob Lake and Gaye Don Tyler; a son, John and wife Sandy Tyler; two sisters, Marie Carter, Lynda McCarty; two brothers, Donnie and Tom Cothren; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
