NELL WOFFORD
LULA-Services for Alma Nell Wofford, 76, Lula, are 10 a.m. Thursday at Criswell Chapel, the Revs. Glenn Russell and Joe Nemecek officiating. Burial follows at Allen Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 – 8 p.m. Wednesday at Criswell Funeral Home.
Mrs. Wofford died on Sunday, Sept. 20, 2009, at a local hospital. She was born June 6, 1933, at Lone Oak in Coal County to Buck and Elizabeth Woods Sweat. She attended Lula schools and graduated from Lula High School. She lived in Pampa, Texas, from 1957 – 1965 before moving back to Lula. She was a homemaker and also a member of Allen First Baptist Church. She was a very active member in the Lula community. She and her sister Marcine Johnston were instrumental in the development of the Lula Volunteer Fire Department, Lula Day, and in establishing a rural water district in order to obtain rural water for the Lula community.
She married Clyde Wofford on April 5, 1952 in Fort Smith, Arkansas.
Survivors include her husband, Clyde Wofford, of the home; a son, Jack Wofford, Lula; a daughter, Melinda Rolen and her husband Johnny, Fittstown; three grandchildren, René Savage and her husband Carl; and John Rolen; one great grandson, Jakob Savage; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Bearers are nephews, Don Berkemeyer, Charles Teel, Zack Munday, Sable Harden Jr., Darrell Lackey and Nathan Teel. Honorary bearers are Ferrell Baird, Stewart Ward, Dr. Lauren Patton, H. C. Spain, Donnie Johnson, Kevin Flowers, Dodson Brown, Freeland Colbert, Jearl Knighten, Jake Williams, Dillon Kirkland, Malcolm Casey, and Bill Sluder.

JESSE-Memorial services for James Wesley “Jim” Edwards, 84, Jesse, are 2 p.m. Thursday at Criswell Chapel.
Mr. Edwards died on Monday, Sept. 21, 2009, at his home. He was born January 27, 1925, at Blackrock near Allen, to James Wesley Edwards Sr. and Manda Maude Davis Edwards. He attended school at Cathay, Okla. He served in the U. S. Army Infantry during WWII in the Pacific Front, serving in Iwo Jima and the Philippines. He was an oil field worker and welder, and later owned a trucking business based in Union Valley.
He married Gladys Bernice Grigsby in 1946. She preceded him in death Nov. 19, 1972. He married Golda Faye Shinn in 1977. She preceded him in death Dec. 14, 1999. Also preceding him in death, is his step-father Guy Conley.
Survivors include a son, James Ed Edwards and his wife Sheryl, Stonewall; two daughters, Linda Barnett and her husband Aubrey, Ada; and Susan Murphy and her husband Steve, Frisco, Texas; six grandchildren, Shelly Hatter, Stratford; Jamie Phillips and her husband Robert, Union Valley; Shaun Mullins and his wife Heather, Edmond; Jason Edwards and his wife Kelley, Stratford; Mackenzie Wilfong and her husband Erin, Stillwater; and Madison Murphy, Japan; nine great grandchildren; one sister, Nina Lynch, Ada; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother and father, James and Manda Edwards; a brother, Bill Edwards; sisters, Elva Selby and Jean Smalling; his first wife Bernice and his second wife Golda.

ADA- Services for Sherry Mae Bacon, 55, Ada, are p.m. Wednesday at Gerty United Methodist Church, the Rev. Kerry Groce officiating. Burial follows at Gerty Cemetery.
Mrs. Bacon died Sunday, Sept. 20, 2009, at a local nursing home. She was born Sept. 18, 1954, at Lubbock, Texas, to Dale and Lola Keeling Sullivan. She attended school at Atwood and graduated from Atwood High School in 1974. She lived in this area most of her life and was a casino manager at Ada Gaming Center.
Survivors include a daughter, Amanda Davidson, Mead; a son, Michael Davidson and his wife Janice, Oklahoma City; four grandchildren, Marcus Davidson, Tanner Davidson, Lorelai Davidson and Bryannah Davidson; mother, Lola Sullivan, Gerty; a sister, Dolly Sanders, Wynnewood; a life-long friend, Debra Hatton, Allen; and numerous co-workers. She was preceded in death by a grandson, Riley Davidson; and her father, Dale Sullivan.

ADA-Services for Elsie Mae Harjo, 69, Ada, 1:30 p.m. Friday at Sand Creek Eufaula Baptist Church in Wewoka, the Rev. Houston Tiger, Deacon Dave Bowlegs, and the Rev. Cloyd Harjo officiating. Burial follows at Rosedale Cemetery. Friends and family may call at Sand Creek Eufaula Baptist Church from 4 p.m. Thursday until service time.
Mrs. Harjo died Monday, Sept. 21, 2009, at her home.

LEE HORNE
ADA — A memorial service for Lee Horne, 72, will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Ada First Baptist Church, the Rev. Pat Kilby officiating. A private family burial will follow. At Mr. Horne’s request, there will be no viewing or visitation.
Mr. Horne died Monday, Sept. 21, 2009 at his home in Ada. He was born in Holdenville July 9, 1937 to William Chester and Eva May (Hawthorne) Horne.
He graduated from Holdenville High School and attended the University of Oklahoma on a football and basketball scholarship. He transferred to East Central State College and continued to play football for East Central until he received his undergraduate degree. He was married to Judy Ruble in Ada on June 3, 1962. He was football coach at Pawnee, Oklahoma from 1962 to 1964 and then continued his coaching career at Cameron University from 1964 to 1970. He earned his master’s degree in 1966. In 1970 he moved to Ada and became a New York Life Insurance Agent. He remained an active and well-respected agent until his death. He had served in the Oklahoma National Guard, was a member of the First Baptist Church in Ada and was well-known for being a driving force for both Ada High School and East Central University Athletics.
Mr. Horne was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Chester Horne.
He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Judy Horne of the home, two sons, Steve Horne and wife Allison, Ada, Jay and wife Kenda Horne, Ada; brother Bill Horne Sr. and wife Twylah Horne, Ada; three grandchildren, Cameron Horne, Ada, and Zachary and Joshua Horne, Ada; nephew Bill Horne Jr., Ada, nieces Jennetta Bagwell, Ada, and Jeonone Kessler, Edmond.
Mr. Horne is also survived by his close friend and daily “coach,” Ken Johnson and wife June, Ada.
