GENE MEEK
CLEVELAND, Texas — Services for Everett E. "Gene" Meek, 75, were held Saturday at Oak Shade Baptist Church in Cleveland, Texas. Graveside services were 2 p.m. Monday, Sept. 28, 2009, at Lightning Ridge Cemetery, Ada, Okla.
Mr. Meek died Tuesday, Sept. 22, 2009. He Gene was born Feb. 15, 1934, to Dorsey and Alpha Meek in Ada, Okla.
He graduated from the University of Oklahoma with a degree in chemical engineering. He was also a graduate of the University of Connecticut with a business degree. Mr. Meek enlisted in the military and was later commissioned as a United States Army officer. During his business career, Mr. Meek settled in Cleveland, Texas, in the early 1980s. He established Genesis Chemicals Inc. in 1988.
He was a member of Oak Shade Baptist Church and participated in various Liberty County community programs. Mr. Meek retired in 2008.
Survivors include his wife, Donna Raye Meek; a sister, Alene Dalley and husband Mac; children, Greg Meek and wife Leonor, Sally Berg, Stephen Hornback, Ronald Hornback and wife Robin, and Carrie Beshears and husband Kevin; grandchildren, Jacob, Serena, and Tyler Meek, Ross and Kyle Hornback, and Alexandria and Elizabeth Beshears.

GEORGIA KNIGHTON
HOLDENVILLE — Funeral services for Georgia Knighton, 83, are 11 a.m., Wednesday, Sept. 30, 2009, at Shiloh Baptist Evangelist Temple Church of God in Christ in Holdenville with Overseer John T. Berry officiating. Burial follows at Shiloh Cemetery.
Mrs. Knighton was born Sept. 2, 1926, in Vernon, Okla., to James and Bessie Reynolds Fullbright.
She married the Rev. Troy Knighton in 1940.The couple made their home in Holdenville for many years.
Ms. Knighton was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Troy Knighton Sr, a son, Troy Knighton Jr. and brothers, Joe, Quincy, James and Lesley; and two sisters, Cordie and Annie Mae.
Survivors are a grandson, Larry “Ol’ Boy” Knighton, Holdenville; granddaughter, Ina Goode and husband, John; daughter-in-law, Floy Knighton, and granddaughter-in-law, Lisa Knighton; grandsons, Robert Bush of West Plains, Mo., and Danny Bush and wife, Viola of Ada; granddaughter, Latonia Knighton of Oklahoma City; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Pallbearers are Brian Goode, Robert Bush, Danny Bush, Demarcus Nelson and Tevin Simmons.

MORRIS POE
ADA — Services for Morris Poe, 82, Ada, are 2 p.m. Wednesday at Criswell Funeral Home Chapel, the Rev. Joe Dixon will officiate. Burial will follow at Rosedale Cemetery.
Mr. Poe died Sunday, Sept. 27, 2009, at his home. He was born Nov. 21, 1926, at Ada to Albert and Jennie Owens Poe.
He attended Irving grade school and graduated from Ada High School in 1944. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1944. He attended boot camp at Naval Air Technology Training Center in Millington, Tenn., and was stationed in Guam as an aviation machinist and postman. He was honorably discharged from the Navy in 1946.
He married Lois Jean Miller Oct. 10, 1948, in Gainesville, Texas.
Mr. Poe was a longtime florist at Ada Greenhouse working there for almost 70 years. He and his wife became owners of Ada Greenhouse in the mid 1970s. In June 2005, he was given a 25-year-length of service award from the National Weather Service Cooperative Program for collecting daily temperature and rainfall data for the National Weather Service. He was a member of Oak Avenue Baptist Church
Survivors include his wife Lois Poe, of the home; a daughter, Susan Cartmell and husband Larry, Ada; a son, Scott Poe and wife Shana, Ada; his grandchildren, Jenny Cartmell, Norman, Mike Poe, Ada, Lori Poe, St. Peters, Mo., Lauren Poe, Norman, and Charlesey Youngwolfe, Ada; and a sister, Marvanelle Walker, Healdton.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Sammie Poe and Jack Poe and a sister, Faye Jeter.
Bearers will be Clint Sturdevant, Jack Wilkerson, Jim Gurley, Joe Lee Walker, Dr. Gordon Deen and Kendall Cartmell.
