Sounding Board, May 24, 2009

"I always plan to travel on the holidays, but my checkbook and I just can't seem to come to terms."

"I want to commend the Byng School system for their high scores on the academic performance index. I think it put into a clear perspective that Byng has their priorities straight."

"Ada city letter carriers May 9 had its annual food drive. A man was seen driving a faded blue pickup in the area of the Country Club taking sacks of food off the mail boxes. If anyone knows the identity of this man or has the tag number of the pickup, please notify the Post Office."

"I am disappointed that President Obama did not observe National Prayer Day. I am not surprised. He was heard to say this is not a Christian county. It makes me wonder."

"I would like to tell you about this National Day of Prayer. I think it is a travesty that President Obama didn't hold some kind of prayer service on this National Day of Prayer. Everyone better listen, because I will tell you what this country is going down faster than Sodom and Gomorrah."

"I just read the editorial about oil tax breaks. The oil tax breaks that President Obama is planning to do away with are those to major oil companies, who not only paid less in corporate tax than they should have, they received tax credits, which mean we were paying part of our taxes when they were making 400 percent increases in profits. Isn't it enough that they destroyed our economy? It is time to get real. All local people around here do not benefit from these types tax breaks. Just take care of the big boys by doing away their tax breaks.

A lot of the businessmen around here will still be in business doing the great job they are currently doing."

"I was at a local truck stop the other day. The cashier was so busy texting on the cell phone she couldn't wait on me. Is it allowed that people can text and talk or whatever they want while working? I think some of them should be fired."
