Sounding Board, 10-25-09

“In regards to Roman Polanski, it is too bad that John Wayne is not alive. He would give him his brand of justice. Get it? Brand!”

“I want to put out an all-points bulletin for the sun. It has been missing for a week.”

“Listening to the modern music from country to church music, I wonder from the lyrics and the sound—or noise, if you please—whatever happened to real, meaningful music?”

“This is a note to our county commissioner that is over our district south of Latta on Farm to Market Road. I nearly had a wreck two mornings trying to find the middle of the road. There is so much black on the road I can’t see the middle of the road or the sides. I think we need to have something done.”

“As a proud resident of Ada for more than 30 years I like to see Ada kept clean and beautiful. However, some people don’t have the same definition. They throw trash in the alleys to blow all over the neighborhood and in other people’s yards, including mine. They drive along streets and throw beer bottles and cans in yards. Others dump their cigarette butts in the parks. Some put carts in handicapped parking spots and then some put lawn clippings in streets which is against city ordinances.”

“Let me get this straight, a stimulus package for casinos? A stimulus package for beauty shops? So you go and gamble and lose your money and then you go and get your hair untangled at the beauty shop because you lost all your money?”

BC: What are you talking about?

“The ‘Kindess or payoff’ (column published Oct. 21) article brought to my mind President Obama’s suggestion that every senior get $250 because there will be no cost of living increase. Well, since this is a democracy, I voted for a payoff. After all, with the reduction in medicare and medicaid I thought this is all normal but I think that would be like putting out a four alarm fire with a water pistol.”

BC: The column to which you are referring was a personal column about Halloween candy and had nothing to do with politics.

“I’m calling. I think we have a vacancy on our city council and it’s been sometime and I wonder why it has not been filled by an appointment or whatever needs to be done. Some fresh new ideas would be nice.”

BC: The last we heard, no one from the ward the vacant seat represents has expressed interest in being on Ada City Council.
