United Fund seeks pledges

In late summer United Fund of Pauls Valley board members set out to raise money for their 2009 drive and after several fundraisers a final community campaign is now under way to help them reach this year’s goal.

A back-to-school dance kicked things off in August, followed by a benefit golf tournament in September which noted a record turnout.

In October the spaghetti dinner and silent auction brought in more much-needed funds and the month closed out with the second annual downtown bucket drive.

United Fund of Pauls Valley President Alison Humphrey said the final phase of this year’s community drive is the pledge card campaign which started this week and continues until the end of the month.

“We had 31 organizations who requested financial assistance this year. We set our budget at $70,000 because we thought that was a realistic goal,” Humphrey said.

United Fund board members will call on area businesses and residents through Nov. 30 with pledge cards in hand. “We’re asking everyone to make as generous a donation as possible,” Humphrey said.

Humphrey said the drive is $10,000 short of its 2009 goal.
