Bertie Laverne Mayhan

Bertie Laverne Mayhan of Lindsay, Okla., passed quietly from this life to her eternal reward early Monday morning, November 2, 2009, with family by her side.

She was born to Earl and Lois (Jensen) Brown on September 11, 1939 and lived her entire life in the Wallville and Lindsay communities.

She married Jim Mayhan on October 9, 1959 and to this union two sons were born, Steve and Bruce.

Although not always recognized, Mom held what one wise man, her dad, described as the most important job in the world, a stay-at-home mother. Although other jobs may have provided more finances, mom understood the importance of her “work” and was faithful till the job was finished.

When a son pens his mother’s obituary, he doesn’t remember the things bought with money, such as the latest styles in clothing or gadgets, but rather Mom’s touch on a fevered brow, her attendance at your school activity, a kiss for a skinned knee, supper on the table when you get home from school, and the peace of mind in knowing you’re the most important thing in the world to your mother. Thanks, Mom for a job well done!

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and a great grandson Haden Cole Mayhan.

She is survived by two sons: Steve and his wife Becky and Bruce and his wife Priscilla of Pauls Valley, Okla.; stepson, Robert and his wife Janie and their children Blake, Dallas, and Laquana of Ft. Bridger, Wyo.; grandchildren: Bradley Mayhan and his wife Cassaree of Pauls Valley, Stephanie Blankenship and her husband Billy of Stratford, Shelly Mayhan of Moore, Tyler Mayhan and his wife Nicole of Pauls Valley and Zachary Mayhan of Pauls Valley; great-grandchildren: Liberty, Makrae and Cheralyn Blankenship, Silas Mayhan, and Brooke Mayhan; brothers: Ray Brown and Arvil Brown of Lindsay; and a very special friend, Hazel White of Lindsay.

We would be in trouble if we failed to mention she is also survived by her faithful dog Tiny and besides “It won’t hurt a thing in the world.”

The family would like to thank Dr. Steve Moore and all the staff at Pails Valley General Hospital for the excellent care mom received. Also, thanks to all the family and friends for sitting with mom around the clock so she was never alone.

Funeral Services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, November 5, 2009 at the First Baptist Church in Maysville, Oklahoma. Bro. Steve Mayan, Bro. Doyle Austin, and Bro. Donne Molter will officiate with burial in the Green Hill Cemetery, Lindsay, Oklahoma under the direction of John Williams of Winans Funeral Home, Maysville, OK.

Condolences to the family can be sent to www.winansfuneralhome.com.
