Murl Moyers
Murl Moyers of Pauls Valley was born July 21, 1926 in Hugo, Oklahoma to Harry F. and Emily (Shepard) Moyers.
He passed away November 1, 2009 in Pauls Valley, Oklahoma at the age of 83 years.
As many did, Murl had to work the fields on the family farm when he was young. He also worked the cattle which he loved doing. Later, when he was grown, he became an independent truck driver.
Murl Moyers and Anita Uvonne Stanford were married in Pauls Valley, Oklahoma on November 14, 1976. He was a member of the Beaty Baptist Church and dearly loved his church family.
On Sunday afternoons it was common for him to take his grandchildren and others to get ice cream. He loved children and most always had a treat for them. His other favorite activities included being with his family and his special fishing buddies: his brother, Donnie Moyer, “Bo” McAfee, and Obie Campbell; as well as meeting with his many friends each morning at McDonald’s for coffee to catch up on the area news.
After his retirement, Murl continued driving and moving cars for Marc Heitz Auto Valley in Pauls Valley.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Anita Uvonne Moyers; a son, Murl Alvin Moyers; a sister, Gladys Chick; and a brother, Donnie Moyer.
Surviving family include his three daughters: Kay Joyner and her husband, Jim, Linda Harmon and her husband, Alvin, and Phyllis Stephens, all of Pauls Valley; six grandchildren: Jeniece Tate, Mel Joyner, Tina Mainord, Sandy Goggans, Stephanie Potthoff and Brandon Stephens; nine great-grandchildren; two brothers: Ollie Moyers of Greenville, Texas and Frank Moyers of Yukon; three sisters: Pearl James of Oklahoma City, Dorothy Courtney and Wanda Oldham, both of Bethany; and a special fishing buddy and friend, “Bo” McAfee of Edmond.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, November 4, 2009 at 2 p.m. at Stufflebean Chapel of Remembrance officiated by Rev. Stephen Reed. Interment will be at Mt. Olivet Cemetery under the direction of Stufflebean-Coffey Funeral Home.
