WW looking to improve district position

Wynnewood is going to the playoffs but where they are going to finish is still up in the air. Three teams - Wynnewood, Stratford and Wayne - are all fighting for spots two, three and four in district A-5.

Stroud has the district title all wrapped up but the next three teams are all tied with two losses, one to Stroud and the other is amongst themselves. All three are playing games that are winnable but its going to come down to points to where they are going to finish.

Stratford holds the edge right now with Wayne behind them and Wynnewood behind them.

Wynnewood has a tough game on Friday night as they travel to Wewoka to face the Tigers.

“Wewoka has struggled with this and that,” Savage coach Brad O’Steen said. “They only have two wins but they will be coming into this week with a lot of confidence after last week’s win.”

Wewoka has athletes galore but have just struggled to put together four quarters of football, that was until recently.

“They are a scary team,” O’Steen said. “If they put everything together they are tough.”

Offensively, the Savages don’t know what they are going to see. They have an idea but Wewoka has shown several different things all season long.

“That’s the million dollar question,” O’Steen said about the Wewoka offense. “We could see everything and the kitchen sink or just their base offense. Last week they started the game with a double pass so we have to expect anything.”

Defensively, Wynnewood is looking for about the same thing that the Tigers do on offense, a lot of different things.

“I look for them to line up in their base defense and then change when we line up in our offense.” O’Steen said. “I feel the strongest part of their defense is their secondary.”

That’s what the wide open offense of the Savages has experienced all season. Teams line up one way but quickly change when Wynnewood comes to the line.

Wynnewood will be looking for a win by 15 points and then some help to move up the line to third or even second from their current fourth position.

Coach O’Steen will be looking for continued consistency on offense as they take to the field Friday night.

On defense, Coach O’Steen doesn’t want his players biting on the trickery that Wewoka has and instead wants all of his defensive players running to the football and making good hits.

Kick off in Wewoka is at 7:30 p.m.
