Henry named Region 5 Coach of the Year

A huge honor was bestowed on fourth-year head coach Brandon Henry recently when he was named the Region 5 Coach the Year. Henry, the Pauls Valley Lady Panther head softball coach, guided his team to a 22-9 record and PV’s first-ever regional tournament win.

This was Henry’s first year to be eligible for this prestigious award, given each year by the Oklahoma High School Fast-Pitch Softball Coaches Association.

“Coach Henry was selected as Region 5 coach of the year,” said Purcell Softball Coach Jamie Roberts, who served as an OK–Region 5 committee member. “(He) was voted on at our region meeting with all the coaches. I actually am on a committee of five coaches that selects the All-State team.”

According to the OHSFSCA Web site, 53 total teams comprise the state’s Region 5. Included among those teams is the 2009–Class 4A State Fast-pitch Softball Champion Blanchard Lady Lions.

“It’s an award that comes from your peers,” said Peter Campbell, Pauls Valley Public Schools Athletic Director. “Brandon’s peers recognize that he’s competitive, yet compassionate.”

Campbell added that Henry’s selection is a first in the 12-year history of the PV Softball Program.

“This has been the highest awarded team, and coach, and players–having three players named to the All-State team,” he said.
