Mature Melody Makers entertain at Heartland Plaza

The Mature Melody Makers, an adult group of singers from First Baptist Church, met at the church Aug. 7 for a short business meeting. James Rosson was the director and Betty Wynn was the pianist. Rosson gave the opening prayer. Following the business meeting, the group went by bus to the Heartland Plaza to do a program for the residents.

The ladies ensemble sang “On the Battlefield,” and “His Grace Is Sufficient.” Dr. Don Stafford gave a poem, “Brush Arbor in the Park,” that he had written.Mary Sue Roberts entertained by telling humorous stories. The choir sang “What a Day That Will Be,” “He Touched Me,” “Shall We Gather at the River,” “Just a Little Walk With Jesus,” “When the Roll Is Called Up Yonder,” “A New Name Written Down in Glory,” and “I Am Resolved.” The residents joined in with singing of some of these hymns. Rosson spoke to the residents, thanking the Plaza for having the group and inviting them to First Baptist Church. Rev. Kenneth Elkins gave the closing prayer. Following the program, the group went to Papa’s Pizzeria for visiting and a luncheon.

Those doing the program were Don and Martha Martin, Sue Asklund, Doris Brooks, Eileen Williams, Mary Sue Roberts, Rev. Kenneth and Vonnye Elkins, Betty Wynn, Jackie Wells, Viola Dew, Jean Haworth, James Rosson, Marie Spears, Dolores Moore, Carl Gilley, Willie Mae Williams, Doug and Tubby Davis, Dr. Don Stafford and Jennie Gridley. Joining the group for the luncheon were Jane Stafford, Rev. Jerry Wells and Mel Haworth.
