ADA — Becky Morrison was recently named a 2008 recipient of the Pi Lambda Theta Nadeen Burkeholder Williams Music Scholarship.
Morrison was selected because of her success in using her formal education, talent, and performance experience to engage middle school students in musical theater and inspire them to embrace their parts and enjoy the opportunity to perform. She is completing a doctor of musical arts degree at Boston University College of Fine Arts.
Williams scholarships are for $1,000, and are presented to outstanding K-12 teachers who are pursuing graduate degrees at accredited colleges or universities, and who either are music education teachers or apply music systematically in teaching another subject. Selection is based upon the recipient's articulated theory of teaching and demonstrated techniques for transforming experience and knowledge of music into teacher effective-ness and student learning. The award was established in 1997 and is funded by a bequest from Nadeen Burkeholder Williams to the Pi Lambda Theta Educational Endowment.
