Homer School playground gets spruced up

Homer Elementary School spruced up it’s playground last spring with the help of the Homer PTO and local businesses who donated time, energy and materials.

Materials consisted of fencing and an 8-foot by 16-foot concrete wall.  The wall now provides the students with a place to play “wall ball.”  Initially the wall had a natural gray appearance. 

The playground view of the ball wall now has a more colorful look as well as numerous game options. Byng art teacher Vicki Cowger and several of her Art Club members from Byng Junior High School created the design.

Byng students Chance Christian, Cori Cox, Allison Cable, Rebekah Perkins, Angel Wade and Homer student Kory Cowger painted the wall. 

Club members met early in the mornings or just before dusk to work on the design for the ball wall.  In the end signature hand prints of the art students were added for a finishing touch.  The color pallet and geometric designs of Piet Mondrian were used as inspiration for the ball wall design.

Today, Homer students can be found playing wall ball, in its many variations, and measuring their hands against the prints of the junior high artists.
