Sweeney serves on Austin College's SDB
SHERMAN — The Austin College’s Student Development Board (SDB) is a 45-member board selected each year in interviews held by the Board’s executive committee and members of the Office of Admission.
Board members include Erin Sweeney, graduate of Bishop Lynch High School and daughter of Shane Sweeny, Ada, Okla., and Nancy Sweeny May, Rowlett, Texas.
The members of SDB assist the college professional staff in promoting Austin College by giving campus tours and calling perspective students. SDB members help organize and facilitate campus-wide events including opening of school activities, Family Weekend, Homecoming, Preview events, Kangaroo Camp, Honors Convocation, and Commencement, as well as high school visitation programs and campus tours. The list of board members follows, along with the high school from which they graduated, and their parents’ names.

Delta Dental awards Ada Native $5,000
ADA — Stephanie Meeks, an Ada native, was awarded a $5,000 scholarship from Delta Dental of Oklahoma’s Charitable Foundation. The Foundation awarded a total of $50,000 in scholarships to 10 students at the University of Oklahoma College of Dentistry.
Meeks is the daughter of Robert and Patricia Vavricka.
ReachHigher grads include local students
OKLAHOMA CITY — Oklahoma's college program for adults recently celebrated its first graduating class with 16 students receiving a bachelor of science degree in organizational leadership.
"ReachHigher: Oklahoma's Degree Completion Program" is designed for adults who have attended at least two years of college but didn't complete a bachelor's degree. The program is offered at eight Oklahoma's public regional universities across the state.
Universities currently offering Reach Higher include: Cameron University in Lawton, East Central University in Ada, Langston University in Langston and Oklahoma City, Northeastern State University in Muskogee, Northwestern Oklahoma State University in Alva and Enid, Rogers State University in Claremore, Southwestern Oklahoma State University in Weatherford, and the University of Central Oklahoma in Edmond.
Local graduates include Ricky "Rick" D. Hooper, Ada, and Melissa L. Layton, Stratford.

Students inducted into Phi Kappa Phi
STILLWATER — A total of 175 undergraduate and graduate students were inducted this fall into the Oklahoma State University chapter of Phi Kappa Phi national honor society.
New inductees include Samantha A. Lovelace, Ada. She is a senior majoring in plant and soil science.
