Sixteen people in Ashtabula County have unclaimed tax refunds, Sen. Sherrod Brown, D-Avon, announced last week.
The nearly 900 northeast Ohio residents with Internal Revenue money owed to them did not receive checks because of out of date addresses and “return to sender” mail status, Brown said.
“Nearly 2,500 Ohioans
can receive checks from the IRS if they update their mailing addresses,” said Brown. “With family budgets already stretched thin, Ohioans should not miss out on refunds they’re owed. I encourage all Ohioans who have not received their refunds to contact the IRS to determine if there’s a check waiting for them.”
Cuyahoga County residents have the most outstanding checks with 382 unclaimed checks. Just 28 Geauga County residents are without their checks and 40 Lake County residents have checks waiting.
Brown said Ohio taxpayers who have not received tax refunds can visit the “Where’s My Refund?” page at www.irs.gov or call to (800) 829-1040 to check on their IRS status. Brown’s Web site, http://brown.senate.gov/, includes a link to the page and instructions on how Ohioans can claim tax refunds.
