Live Oak’s Team Pro Arms Sweeps Five Divisions

Live Oak’s home-grown pistol team, sponsored by the Pro Arms Gun Shop at John’s Lawn Equipment on North Ohio Avenue, Live Oak, swept all five gun divisions at this month’s International Defensive Pistol Association (IDPA) match hosted by First Coast IDPA recently.

Massad Ayoob won the Stock Service Pistol division and the overall match, shooting the Smith & Wesson Military & Police 9 mm Pro pistol on the cover of the September issue of Guns magazine, where Ayoob is handgun editor. He also captured High Senior and High Law Enforcement honors.

Team Captain Jon Strayer won the Custom Defense Pistol division with a .45 caliber S&W M&P, and placed second overall. In the same division, Bud Deese won second place in the Unclassified category, shooting only his second IDPA match, and Roger Clark of Team Pro Arms was first place novice. Deese used a Kimber 1911 pistol and Clark a Smith & Wesson M&P, both .45 caliber.

Chris Christian of Team Pro Arms won the Enhanced Service Pistol division and was third best shooter overall, giving the team a 1-2-3 sweep of top places. He used a 9 mm S&W Military & Police.

Gail Pepin of Live Oak, the current Florida/Georgia Regional Woman’s Champion, set aside her usual Glock to shoot a Military & Police 9 mm in competition for the first time. She won high woman honors amidst an unusually numerous field of female competitors this month, barely edging Terri Strayer, also of Live Oak and former Florida State Champion.

In the two revolver divisions, Live Oak prevailed as well with Pro Arms manager Steve Denney winning Enhanced Service Revolver with a .45 caliber Smith & Wesson Model 625, and Herman Gunter III capturing top honors in Stock Service Revolver with a .38 caliber Smith & Wesson Military & Police Model 10 revolver.

Most of the group shot the Military & Police pistols this month because that type of Smith & Wesson is the topic of an upcoming podcast in the Pro Arms series, which can be downloaded to MP3 compatible equipment from http://proarms.podbean.com.
