NEW: Residentially zoned land costs more

Land conservancy responds to question on Potts' land....more>>

  • Heath department gets A plus
    Editor, The Transcript:
I went to the Cleveland County Health Department for a H1N1 flu shot today.
After all of the hype, I was fully prepared for a long, tedious wait in line. I was expecting all of the warmth, compassion and efficiency of the Department of Motor Vehicles.

  • No laughing matter
    Editor, The Transcript:
David R. Morgan wrote "Any significant change in our health care arrangement will surely be better than what we have..." In response I quote John McEnroe: "You cannot be serious?" How can there be anyone who pays even a little attention to what's going on who does not believe that the federal government is capable of making anything worse?
I suggest a simple idea that would allow Americans to really get some good information about the proposed health care bill(s).

  • Rep. Tom Cole should be thanked, not criticized
    Editor, The Transcript:
In response to Joe Carter's letter criticizing Tom Cole, I'd like to criticize his argument that AARP and the AMA are supporting this bill. They are indeed endorsing the bill but do you know the reasons why? A recent article in the Wall Street Journal revealed the reasons.

  • So which is it?
    Editor, The Transcript:
Few issues will raise the blood pressure of Normanites like speed tables. It is a love them or hate them proposition but does it have be?
Councilmember Dillingham often says that council should be making data driven decisions.

  • Rename it Rosenthal Road
    Editor, The Transcript:
They can't help themselves can they?
Council commissioned a study to help the Porter Avenue area neighbors find an accommodation with local businesses to protect neighborhoods and help the businesses by establishing a demarcation zone that would allow for reasonable parking for business and protection from encroachment for the people who live behind them.

  • A salute to Wal-Mart
    Editor, The Transcript:
I would like to thank the citizens of Norman and the managements of the west side and east side Wal-Marts for their continued cooperation, year after year, in allowing Am Vets Post 9, to set up at their respective stores.

  • Celebrity Sing hits all the right notes
    Editor, The Transcript:
On behalf of The United Way, we would like to thank all those who attended Celebrity Sing 2009. It was a wonderful night in a wonderful environment, and many people worked to make it so.

  • Drowning mental health agencies need a lifeline
    Editor, The Transcript:
It was appalling to me to read about further budget cuts to Oklahoma mental health agencies which are already operating on bare-bones budgets. Although mental illnesses may seem more invisible than other diseases, they are no less real.

  • A no vote for Dec. 8
    Editor, The Transcript:
Educate yourself before you vote Dec. 8.
Since 2004, voters have approved and Norman Public Schools has spent $83 million in bond money. After spending all those millions of dollars, do your children have state-of-the-art schools with the best technology available? I think you can easily agree they don't.
