Published November 08, 2009 01:15 am - The City of Norman had 360 names engraved onto the Cleveland County Veterans' Memorial tablets Friday afternoon. Less than a year after it unveiled the memorial at Reaves Park, the total number of veteran names now stands at 1,964, Parks and Recreation Director Jud Foster said Friday. Less than a year after it unveiled the memorial at Reaves Park, the total number of veteran names now stands at 1,964, Parks and Recreation Director Jud Foster said Friday. The names are sandblasted using a stencil to depict the veteran's name, he said. Foster said he expects there to be enough names to hold engravings once a year on Veterans Day. "At first, before the memorial was built, we placed advertisements and we had a big response," Foster said. "Now it's tapered off. "It's more slow and steady now." Veterans can have their names added to the memorial by filling out an application available at the City of Norman Web site, www.ci.norman.ok.us/parks/veterans_memorial.htm.
