Open house with Lilly set Friday
Lilly the Mouse, a character created in a children's book series by author Kevin Henkes, will be at the Noble Public Library, 204 N. 5th St., to welcome first graders and their families to a Library Open House from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Friday.
The come-and-go event features a Light Bulb Lab, crafts, games, and cheesy snacks. First graders and their families will be introduced to the age-appropriate resources the library has available. Those who do not have a free library card may sign up to get one at the Open House.
People who live, work, attend school, or own property in Cleveland, McClain, or Pottawatomie counties are eligible for a library card with the Pioneer Library System. Those who do not qualify for a regular card may opt for a limited-access conditional card with the library.
Lilly will be available to pose for photos during the Open House and parents are encouraged to bring their own cameras.
Lilly also will make an appearance at the Katherine I. Daily Elementary School Thursday to read one of her stories, tell about the library and invite children to the Open House.
Lilly and her friends Wemberly, Sheila Rae, Owen and Julius are familiar characters for children who love the books written and illustrated by Kevin Henkes and published by Harper Collins Children's.
Henkes won the 2005 Caldecott Medal, awarded annually by the Association for Library Service to Children, a division of the American Library Association, to the artist of the most distinguished American picture book for children.
