Finishing problems

LINCOLN, Neb. -- It was no secret offensive struggles were holding Oklahoma back this season. Saturday night against Nebraska, it was akin to the unit taking the whole team and chaining it to a train heading the other direction.....more>>

  • Half right, but all wrong
LINCOLN, Neb. -- Everything was half right for Oklahoma.
Like this blown up and framed poster of an old Sports Illustrated cover inside Memorial Stadium's press box. Commemorating the Game of the Century, a Husker and Sooner on the cover, here was the headline: "Irresistible Oklahoma meets immovable Nebraska.

  • NEW: Tonight's battle will have more than just nostalgia
LINCOLN, Neb. -- National championships and conference championships have been won and lost on the outcome of Oklahoma-Nebraska games.
Tonight's meeting between the Big Reds at Nebraska's Memorial Stadium doesn't have those implications.

  • NEW: What was at stake made the game great
LINCOLN, Neb. -- Oklahoma and Nebraska should play every season!
    That's the idea, isn't it?
Whenever this game comes around, that's the thought. Because the good old days never cease being good and old, it always sounds like a bang up plan.

  • NEW: Tigers fight back, but still take season ending loss
For a while, it looked like Norman High might just roll over and let Lawton Eisenhower run away with District 6A-2's final playoff spot.
But a funny thing happened at Harve Collins Field Friday night. The Tigers started fighting back.

  • NEW: Warren gets national accolade
Oklahoma's Willie Warren has big expectations for this coming season. The Sporting News has bigger expectations for Warren.
Friday, the magazine named the Sooner guard its preseason player of the year for 2009-10 season.

  • NEW: Could CCS go undefeated?
community Christian is one step closer to the first undefeated season in school history.
Friday night the Royals downed Southwest Christian 54-8, a game stopped with over 6 minutes left due to the mercy rule, in the two teams' Oklahoma Christian Schools Athletics Association semifinal.

  • NEW: Southmoore secures first title
MOORE -- When Southmoore was struggling through a 2-8 season last year, Kendal Thompson knew the SaberCats were ready to play in big games. The junior quarterback said they just had to go out and prove it to everyone else.

  • Sooner defense anything but basic
A year ago, Oklahoma's defensive philosophy wasn't rocket science. Just keep it simple summed it up the best.
The Sooners didn't blitz much and the coverages were more about getting everyone on the same page instead of confusing opposing quarterbacks.

  • Jones player ineligible, Little Axe, Lexington move up
Little Axe and Lexington got some good, though unexpected, news from the Oklahoma Secondary School Activities Association Thursday.
According to Little Axe coach Tony Smith, who was alerted of the decision Thursday evening, Jones quarterback Daxx Garman has been ruled ineligible by the OSSAA.
