Ridgecrest Elementary School hosted Camp Invention, a week-long camp Monday through Friday, for first- to sixth-graders interested in math, science and imaginative activities.
Camp Invention is a nationally recognized program that features a mix of popular curriculum and hands-on activities that motivate children to learn basic science and math skills while at the same time using their adventurous minds.
Children worked individually and in groups to save the polluted Sludge City, the imaginary planet of ZAK, construct their own roller coasters and create their own inventions to get rid of “buggy” problems.
This was Ridgecrest Elementary’s first year hosting Camp Invention, and the staff was very excited about the experiences and learning processes the children are absorbing.
“The best part of camp is the children are allowed to get up and be a part of learning,” said Rachel Harkey, a Ridgecrest kindergarten teacher.
“Their bodies and minds are engaged and learning is more meaningful.”
