Stanly native looking for record deal

Kristy Lynn featured in LOCM magazine, CMT show

Tuesday, June 30, 2009 — Albemarle native Kristy Lynn recently travelled to Clinton, Miss. to partake in a once in a lifetime experience.

She was one of 15 aspiring country artists who performed at Providence Hill Farm for the launch party of a new magazine, LOCM (Ladies Of Country Music).

“It is a new magazine to help unsigned artists get heard,” said Kristy, who is a 2005 graduate of Albemarle High School.

She is featured in the July 2009 edition of the magazine that is on sale now, and her performance will be featured on the hit CMT show “Nashville Spotlight.”

Kristy said she was chosen to perform for the launch party after Jerry Pitts Jr., president of LOCM Promotion, contacted her after having seen Kristy’s MySpace Web site, www.myspace.com/brushgirlkristy, which features her music.

Kristy, who is the daughter of Mike and Reba Burris of Albemarle, began performing gospel music when she was 9 years old when she sang at Mt. Olive Baptist Church.

“Singing has always been a passion of mine and a dream I’ve had. I would hear others singing at church and thought that as something I’d like to do,” Kristy said.

She made her first CD when she was 12 and has recently completed a demo CD which features three original tracks.

The first track, “If People Never Dreamed,” was written by Tom Worth and Angie Broberg with ASCAP. The second track, “Sway,” was written by Megan James and Mike Post, and the third track, “Anywhere You Wanna Go,” was written by Worth, Broberg and Brad Hull.

Later this summer, Kristy will be working on a music video with Glenn Sweitzer, who has worked with artists such as Rascal Flatts, Tim McGraw, Leann Rimes and more.

Ultimately, Kristy’s goal is to get a record deal, which is something she is working towards through her MySpace page. She said that members of the MySpace community can visit her site and add her songs to their site.

Each add counts as a vote, and if she obtains enough votes, she can earn the top spot in a competition with other aspiring artists on MySpace to get a record deal.
