Encouragement for hurting mothers

Sunday, June 21, 2009 — I recently went to the Women of Joy conference in Charleston, S.C.

Casting Crowns performed on Saturday night. At the end of the concert each band member said a prayer.

One of the females prayed specifically for mothers who have lost a baby via miscarriage (I don’t care for this word but am using it for technicality sake).

Having lost two babies in the past year it struck a deep heart string. I was grateful she said a special prayer for me and, more than likely, many others in the building.

I’ve never lost a baby after birth or a grown child. I can’t begin to imagine the pain a mother endures. But I do know how it feels to lose a life God planted in my womb from conception. Any woman who has ever lost a baby via miscarriage knows that it is one of the most painful and devastating experiences life can bring.

A child is a child and a woman is a mother from the moment of conception. People who debate this and think having a miscarriage is no big deal should remember that unless they have experienced it they have no right to have an opinion about it.

Despite the heartache and pain I endured I praise God for my beautiful healthy 3-year-old baby boy he has already blessed me with. I am so very grateful for him.

In writing this letter I want to provide encouragement for women who have shared in this pain. Remember that, as hard as it is to understand, God has a perfect plan. As much as we want our babies here, that was not his plan and our babies are in heaven with him.

Be encouraged that God gives us the opportunity to reunite with our babies in heaven if we commit our lives to him.

I believe the Bible and I believe in the mighty God of the Bible. There is no doubt in my mind that one day I will meet my babies and hold them in my arms. Oh what a joyful day that will be.
