Oakboro Christmas planned

Oakboro Museum
Oakboro Regional Museum of History’s rotating exhibit for November and December is “Toys — Everchanging,” with an emphasis on the differences over the decades.
The museum will be open from 5-7 p.m. Dec. 3, the night of the parade. The museum is free to the public; donations accepted.

  • Group participates in State 4-H Congress
    Stanly County was well represented this year at NC State 4-H Congress.
    From Monday morning to Wednesday morning, Stanly County 4-H youth were quite visible.
    Victory Valley 4-H Club started things off by competing in the poultry judging competition.

  • Local 4-H takes first place in poultry judgin contest
    Victory Valley 4-H Club reigned victorious as they placed first in the recent State 4-H Poultry Judging contest.
    Team members Angela Harvell, Samantha Talley, Brandy Cleveland and Kayla Casico displayed their knowledge about the commercial poultry industry by taking part in several classes of competition.

    On Nov. 2, the Stanly County Department of Social Services began taking applications for the Low Income Energy Assistance Program (LIEAP).

    he Stanly County Gang Task Force will have a showing of “The Wrong Family,” a film depicting gang lifestyle and is being shown to schools and community groups to raise awareness of the threats to the welfare of our children and society at large created by gang activity.

  • Bowers turns down plea bargain
    After successfully running a theft ring from Stanly County for more than two years, Michael Chad Bowers, 30, of 38852 Tower Road, Albemarle will get his day in court on Tuesday. Bowers will face a jury in Federal Court in Winston-Salem following his choice to not to take a plea bargain, according to Stanly County Sheriff Rick Burris.
