Geneva M. Johnson

MARSHALL, Ill. — Geneva M. Johnson, 81, of Marshall, passed away at 4:40 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 8, 2009, at Union Hospital in Terre Haute, Ind. She was born July 15, 1928, in Granite City, to Lambert V. “Pat” Smith and Bertha (Akers) Smith. She married Lester H. Johnson Jr., on Oct. 10, 1946, in Marshall, and he preceded her in death on April 3, 1988.

She is survived by her children, Seeva L. Johnson of Marshall, Mitch (Sandra) Johnson of St. Petersburg, Fla., Mindy (Mike) Delp of Marshall, and Pat Johnson of Marshall; grandchildren, Lori Rhoads, Stacy (Matt) Robertson, Derek Johnson, Evan Delp and Eric Johnson; nine great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She also was preceded in death by one brother, Lester Smith.

She was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary and the American Legion Auxiliary, both of Marshall, and attended Bluegrass Church in Martinsville. She was a 1946 graduate of Marshall High School, and was formerly employed at C&M Video for several years. She was a member of the former award winning American Legion Auxiliary Choir.

Services in honor of her life will be 11 a.m. CST Wednesday at Pearce Funeral Home, 314 S. Sixth St., with Larry Hollensbe officiating. Burial is in Marshall Cemetery. Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. today, and 7 a.m. until services Wednesday. For those desiring memorial contributions may be made to the Marshall Schools Foundation.
