Charlie Green
CLINTON — Charlie Green, 70, of Clinton, passed away at 1:10 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 8, 2009, at Danville Veterans Hospital in Danville, Ill. He was born March 10, 1939, in Boonville, Miss., to Jim H. Green and Ollie Mae Moore Green. He was a disabled American veteran. He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Chuck Green; and a sister, Betty Brumley.
He was a U.S. Army veteran, and had served three tours of duty in Vietnam, serving with the 1st Calvary Engineers and ADM. He received three Purple Hearts, two Bronze Stars, one Silver Star, an Air Commendation, and several other medals. He was a member of American Legion Post 140 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6653, both in Clinton. He had also served as chaplain for Post 140, and was a member of Disabled American Veterans, and a former member of the Old Timers Club.
He is survived by his wife, Linda Russell Green; his daughter, Teppi (Jerry) McCasland of Phoenix.; a son, Rudy Solmon; and his grandchildren, Shannon McCasland, Cory Scamihorn, Jessi McCasland, Zachary Green and Chelsea McCasland; brothers, Jim (Betty) Green Jr. of Chicago, Jerry (Barbara) Green of Houston; two brothers-in-law, William Russell, and Samuel (Donna) Russell, all of Chicago; and many nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles.
Services are 2 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 11, 2009, at Frist Funeral Home, 458 Blackman St., with the Rev. Larry Snyder officiating. Cremation was chosen. Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. today. Full military honors will be conducted at the funeral home.
