Panthers move up to top 10

  • Central Cambria girls win 3rd straight PIAA cross country title
Cross country is often thought of as an individual sport, but for the Central Cambria girls, it’s all about the team.
The Lady Red Devils captured their third straight PIAA championship on Saturday at the Parkview Course.

  • Pryor leads Buckeyes past Nittany Lions
The Ohio State Buckeyes are back in control of the Big Ten title race.
Terrelle Pryor threw for two touchdowns and ran for another in his return to his home state, Ray Small burned No. 11 Penn State with two long punt returns and No. 15 Ohio State won a duel of the league’s top two defenses in a 24-7 victory Saturday.

  • Panthers roll past Orange
It took Pitt a while to shake off the rust after a bye week, but the Panthers eventually got their act together and rolled to a 37-10 win against Syracuse in a Big East matchup Saturday afternoon at Heinz Field.
No. 14 Pittsburgh improved to 8-1 overall and 5-0 in the conference.

  • Visiting Monmouth runs past St. Francis
The Monmouth Hawks controlled the line of scrimmage Saturday in a Northeast Conference game against St. Francis, amassing 229 yards of rushing against the Red Flash.
On the other side of the ball,
St. Francis ran into problems when it received opportunities to put points on the board, resulting in a 24-10 Monmouth win at DeGol Field.

  • Pryor expecting an ’electric’ crowd at Penn State
    Welcome home, Terrelle Pryor.
No. 15 Ohio State and its talented dual-threat quarterback visit No. 11 Penn State in a high-stakes Big Ten game. For Pryor, it will be his first game at Beaver Stadium since the western Pennsylvania native spurned Penn State last year to end one of the most publicized recruiting races in recent memory.

  • Pitt hoping to avoid letdown
Pitt football coach Dave Wannstedt has been a bit tense this week, but when one thinks about it that’s not difficult to understand.
Wannstedt knows that despite guiding No. 14 Pitt to the program’s best start since 1982, the Panthers basically haven’t accomplished anything.
Sure, they’re 7-1 overall with a disheartening come-from-ahead loss at North Carolina State the only blemish, but Pitt also is 4-0 in the Big East.
So, the conference title is still within reach with four games remaining, including one with Syracuse (3-5, 0-3) today at noon at Heinz Field.

  • Flash looking to build on conference victory

  • Pitt looks to regain momentum

  • Pitt may be rebuilding, but Dixon remains optimistic
Here’s what losing DeJuan Blair, Sam Young and Levance Fields means: Pittsburgh, one of the eight best teams in the country last season, is picked ninth in the Big East Conference coaches preseason poll.
