Pedersen, Pennington exchange vows
TISHOMINGO — A centennial Oklahoma wedding celebration marked the marriage of Dr. Marty Pedersen and Dr. William Pennington.
The new Mrs. Pennington is a professor in the College of Education at East Central University in Ada. Dr. Pennington is the president of Murray State College in Tishomingo.
They were married in a small family ceremony at the Murray State College presidents' home July 7, 2007, at 7:07 p.m. The Rev. Chris Dodson, pastor of the Tishomingo United Methodist Church, officiated at the wedding.
The bridegroom's great-nieces, Shelby and Delaney Pennington, were flower girls while the bridegroom's grandsons, Jensen and Jonah Link, were ring bearers.
A reception followed the ceremony in the Chickasaw pocket park in downtown Tishomingo. The ladies of the Johnston County Historical Society hosted the reception from the picturesque gazebo at the park. Because of Pennington's specialization in Oklahoma history, the bride and bridegroom were in turn-of-the-century dress, as were many of the guests. Country western singers Johnny Shackleford and Roy Rodgers entertained throughout the evening. Michael Henthorn provided several musical selections as well. In keeping with the Oklahoma theme, homemade ice cream and a wedding cake in the shape of Oklahoma were served at the outdoor reception.
After a short honeymoon at the Turning Leaf Bed and Breakfast near Beaver's Bend National Park in southeastern Oklahoma, the couple will reside in both Tishomingo and Ada.
